Blue Ridge Lookout

This is a whole house Seattle design build remodel of a classic, architect-designed 60’s rambler replete with interesting angles and a stunning view down a stream embankment to the Sound. This remodel catapults that 60’s modern styling into our new millennium with a better flowing floor plan and minimalist aesthetic. The main living space enjoys light and views via huge sliding doors on both sides of the room, rendering a very open, pavilion-like feel with calm, diffused light. Nature-inspired contemporary materials and “wabi-sabi” custom detailing have rendered this dwelling into a zen-like retreat that is restrained yet sumptuous. Custom cabinetry is fabricated of sustainable dark-hued hardwood with unusual artisan features; the fireplace is concrete with Venetian plaster. Large, fossilized limestone floor tiles move from the entry foyer through the house on a subtle angle that is set-up by the two wings of the home. Much attention was paid to building green: the existing wood floors were retrofitted with zoned radiant heat, along with supplementary heat from an air-to-air heat exchanger. Old beams and floors were reclaimed throughout.
